baguette bag

brief: use fabric I found to make a bag from scratch

I liked the fabric it matched my belt

I was in the Maker Lab and wanted to use this gorgeous cherry synthetic leather that matched my belt. Drawing a pattern on pattern paper as to not waste fabric, I made a muslin prototype. Drawing off the lace detail, I wanted to make it look more feminine and soft.

Challenges: Slippery Fabric

Sewing was not without its challenges, the fabric was slippery and led to a tension problem, bunching whenever the layers were too thick.

solution: Zigzag stitch

Zig Zag especially in black is NOT complimentary towards the look of the fabric so I sewed lace overtop.

In order to tie in the lace detailing, I added a center bow for a minimal dainty decal. I made the interior lining white to emulate the picnic basket lining and match the lace.
