AI and the Avant-Garde

brief: make a shoe using AI

Encapsulating the trends and my experiences of summer 2024

With the rise of AI, the ballet flat, orchid heels, athletics, and tech, I created a moodboard of these influences. 2024 is the Summer of the Olympics, balletcore, and AI in art

As an intern at adidas, athletics is the core of the product and I combined it with my interests of art, high fashion, and technology.

key influences: ballet, chunky shoe, kitten heel, straps, sculpture, buckles, robotic, technology

After creating a few sketches incorporating key features from buckles, chunky heel, kitten heel toe, and orchid cuff, I added the sketch into Vizcom to render a 3D shoe.

Sketch + Collage>> Vizcom

Sketch based renderings came out better because the collage based almost followed the idea too closely, especially in colors as seen in the orchid.

Tried rendering through a sketch and a collage

PHASE TWO: BRINGING IT TO LIFE

Blender

I exported the STL generated by Vizcom as a base for the next step, sculpting. Playing with various sculpt tools in Blender, I created the silver shoe to send to be 3D printed.

Magics - 3D Ready

The STL file had parts too thin to be 3D printed as they were less than .1 mm. With help from a 3D expert, we postprocessed the file in Magics using a Shrink Wrap to smooth the holes in the mesh making it ready to be printed.
